汽車模型的各個部件都是澆鑄出來的，澆鑄就需要金屬模具。汽車模型廠里會有專門的車間生產(chǎn)金屬模具。他們根據(jù)石膏的模型，使用機床加工模具。這個車間猶如所有的機械加工廠一樣，一進入就會感到滾滾熱浪，金屬的撞擊聲、旋轉(zhuǎn)的刀具發(fā)出的切削聲不絕于耳。這是一個讓人不愿意多呆的地方，但是工人們依然默默的在自己的崗位上，為每一個精美的車模流著汗水。

和真車生產(chǎn)一樣，汽車模型也要先生產(chǎn)零件，再進行組裝。一般零件的材料有兩種——合金金屬和塑料。這些零件都是靠一種被香港人稱為“啤機”的機器來生產(chǎn)，不過它可不是釀造啤酒的機器，而是塑膠注塑機和金屬壓鑄機之類的機器。鑄出來的合金件外表會很粗糙，要經(jīng)過打磨處理后，才能外表光華。他們發(fā)出略黑的金屬光澤，在陽光下很好看。塑料件的加工相對容易，不需要更多的處理。

汽車模型零件的做工直接影響到整體質(zhì)量，尤其是一些能開啟的部件，例如：車門、行李廂之類，這些零件的尺寸精度要求是很高的，否則在開閉的時候會有松動現(xiàn)象發(fā)生。另外金屬鍍件的光亮程度，儀表板的粘紙等也很重要。
